I love my children so much, and I know that they love me (they don’t have a choice). They are so young (ages 3 and 1), so I know that it is important for me to protect them from harm.
As Moms, we have the highest calling because we are the voice our children hear the most, especially in the early years of their lives. As they get older, there will be other voices out there that they will hear. The voices from society–which are mainly negative and can lead to harm; so for me as a Mom, my focus now that they are young boys, is to speak words that bring life to their hearts. I want them to learn how to rehearse Faith-filled phrases in their minds when tempted by the enemy to head down a destructive path.
It is IMPORTANT to let our children know who GOD says they are, AND that they belong to God ALONE.
Deuteronomy 11:19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
Because children are like little sponges, they tend to absorb what you say to them. Words like:
“You are a bad boy”,
“You are not good enough”,
“You are stupid”,
“Are you mad?”
When they hear words like these, they absorb quickly and in some cases begin to act as you have said by switching it to these self-inflicting statements like;
“I am stupid”,
“I am a bad boy”,
“I am mad”,
“I am not good enough”.
Remember this “It is easier to build up a child than repair an adult. Choose your words wisely”-Matthew Jacobson.
This statement is true. We have so many adults who were broken as children, hence they are now contributing to crime in our world today. I am a firm believer that “everything begins at home”. Life, love, happiness, sadness, anger, all begins at home.
When a child hears words like;
“You are awesome”,
“You are the best”,
“You are smart”,
“I love you”,
“You are the best thing God has given to me”
They become confident and bold. They begin to act according to what they have heard.
Raising children as mothers is not an easy task coupled with work, homework, feeding them and all that we have to do. Hence, It is paramount that as Moms with young children, we need to remember that their minds are precious and tender. When we speak life into them, they produce life.
What are some of the words you’ve said to your children that you regret?
Speak Life
I leave you with this quote:
“Speak to your children as if they are the wisest, kindest, most beautiful and magical humans on earth, for what they believe is what they will become.” – Brooke Hampton
